Agriculture is the real life blood of any economy, it contributes a whole lot in terms of jobs, skills and taking care of the basic need to eat to stay alive. How much food can be produced in Africa? is all this food being eaten? If so why is Africa still hungry?
The most important element in Agriculture is land! without land it makes it extremmely dificult to produce large quantities of food, livestock will run out of proper grazing land. The one continent with an abundance of fertile land is Africa, Africa is also the continent with widespread poverty and hunger. Reason should state that the previous statements are contradictory, if you have the land to grow food you should sleep full.
The first problem is deeper than face value, People should have the sense to grow their own food if one doesnt have the financial means to provide for themself or their families. This requires knowledge and a change of attitude, a change of attitude from "Aid to Trade" , a change of attitude from entitlement to hard work.
The second problem is that there are fruits and vegetables which are indigenous to Africa and grow in abundance. In their seasons these foods are eaten, thrown away and most just rot on the ground. Is this the Hungry Africa we constantly see on our television screens.
Part of the solution is Food processing and Food packaging industries, which a lot of African countries do not have. The Fruits that have been harvested some should be preserved and packaged for selling to external markets, some should be preserved and packaged to be eaten at a later date and some should satisfy the immediate needs of the people
