RE: THE CONVENORS VISIT TO BOTSWANA AS PART OF GBR’S ‘ROADMAP TO 2020’
Greetings Your Excellency in the wonderful name of the Lord Jesus Christ.
On Thursday the 9th of June 2017, GBR Botswana facilitated follow-up meetings with Media broadcasters and Strategic Partners for the Convenors regular Roadmap to 2020 visits.
The delegation to meetings included, the Convenor Mr Sipho Mseleku being accompanied by Mr Thabang Nkosi the Head of Communications & IT. From the Botswana team, in attendance was Mrs Priscilla Kauya, Ms Kate Leboile & Ms Tumelo Keakopa.
This is the second visit by the Convenor to Botswana for the purposes of:
- Expanding “A New Thing” into Botswana’s media houses.
- Ensuring sufficient capacity is mobilised in the Botswana structures of GBR & GFFJ.
THE SCHEDULE OF ACTIVITIES WHERE VARIOUS MEETINGS WERE HELD UNFOLDED AS FOLLOWS:
In the early morning, the GBR team met with Botswana TV. Present in the meeting was the Head of Content Acquisitions and other Senior Managers in the Department. The Convenor gave his update regarding what GBR is doing with “A New Thing” and how fast it is growing throughout all the other nations.
The Head of department thanked GBR for its continued follow-up to partner and mentioned that:
- They appreciate “A New Thing” content.
- They believe that it can impact, transform and inspire lives in Botswana.
- They are finalizing their internal procedures and will be looking to start with us as soon as they are done.
The Team then moved into another building in the same complex where we met with Radio Botswana 2(RB2). RB2 is a commercial radio station that is owned and operated by the Government. Their target market is the working class and new entrants into the working environment.
The Convenor gave a summary of how GBR TV has grown since the last visit to the Country and how we have now expanded into Radio & Print with partners in other countries.
They are eagerly waiting to start airing the show on their radio station. The RB2 management team will meet to discuss and finalise implementation of “A New Thing” Radio Programme on their Station.
Yarona FM is a Youth radio station with very dynamic young people leading the establishment. A new Programming Manager was appointed so the Convenor had to do a refresher presentation on GBR, its Vision, Mandate and Programmes. The Convenor went on to give an update on how “A New Thing” has grown in many other nations in terms of Radio & Print.
Yarona FM mentioned how they have also progressed on their side with relation to our proposal of “A New Thing”. They mentioned how the show would fit into a slot by Kealeboga who hosts “The Revolution” that has a large following of Christian oriented listeners.
Mr Kaone, the new Programmes Manager welcomed the show and waits in anticipation for the review of the content with his team & the MOU with his team during their management meeting.
Our fourth meeting took us to Gabz FM which is a large privately-owned radio station in Gaborone. This being the second meeting with them, we went on to discuss the MOU with them where they gave us feedback on the duration of the show and how soon we can start broadcasting with them.
The next meeting was with Duma FM which is arguably one of the largest radio stations in Botswana. The Content & Marketing Manager Ms. Georginia gave us her feedback regarding the MOU and stated where they would like to see the show airing.
She re-iterated that DUMA FM is excited and ready for the partnership and is just waiting to finalize their side of the MOU then we start airing.
Late in the evening we met with Mr Charles Sewawa who is the Botswana Chamber of Mines CEO and a participant in our GBR Programmes. Mr Sewawa was one of the speakers in the World Congress 2016 Programme.
Many points were discussed with him, one of them being the strengthening of GBR in Botswana to ensure that the foundation will hold when the multitudes of Batswana show interest in joining GBR Botswana.
He then mentioned his support for the breakfast meeting which is scheduled to take place on the 4th August 2017. The aim of the breakfast meeting is to attract leaders from Business, Corporates & Public institutions for the strengthening of GBR & GFFJ structure in the country.
The last meeting of the day was with the Botswana Television Directors & Principle Secretary which was held at their offices. The Convenor presented on GBR and further emphasised its new TV show, “A New Thing”. He highlighted its broad content, diverse speakers/experts and how it cannot be segmented into any single category. The GBR TV content can benefit the entire family.
The management of the station where highly impressed with the offering of the show and insisted on BTV urgently partner with GBR for the benefit of its viewers. More talks will be held over the draft MOU that has been seen to the team.
With a packed day of back to back meetings, we managed to have a productive and successful visit. We believe this will contribute positively to the strengthening of GBR Botswana, which will benefit GBR memebers and the Nation at large. We thank the team from Botswana for their facilitation of the meetings and the support in attending each one of them. We thank God for the Favour he has bestowed upon GBR and all its members.
Finally, I wish to encourage all GBR Chapters globally to facilitate similar regional visits as part of our Road Map to 2020. Working together we need to ensure Vision 2020 is delivered and that the GBR Foundations are complete.
Mr Sipho Mseleku
